I have been using a lot of medium format film lately…. just capturing the chaos and calm of summer around me. The beauty of holga is that it shows me so much light that cannot be contained or controlled, like that red light leak below. It’s just crazy, and I love how it surprises me, that you never know what you are really going to get. I plan on exploring this art form throughout this Australian summer so check back for some square format fun over the next few months. Holga gives me such a freedom to let go, to not be able to control the mistakes, to look at the world through a square eye and not the usual landscape with it’s everywhere-ness.

These images make me so happy as it is exactly what I used to do as a kid, the hose on the trampoline an is a quintessential part of an Australian childhood. And the use of holga film makes me feeling like I am looking back in time, back into my own memory as a child, complete with crazy red light leaks and action filled blurred beauty.

Brisbane Commercial Shoot for Carson Hall: The last light of the day was calling so we found these gorgeous fields to shoot in. It was sprinkling with rain most of the time as well which just added to the fun. Thank you girls for being so fabulous during our full day shoot. I really love stop motion. Here is the latest one from the Carson Hall epic car park shoot Take a while to load but patience! It is worth the wait.

For those that don’t know, stop motion films are lots of image stills spliced together to look like a jumpy film …. I find them so much more interesting that normal video and they make me laugh every time! There are over 800 photographs put together to make this film below, enjoy!

A beautiful Sydney wedding at Freshwater beach. Just a small sneak peek from yesterday afternoon…. brides, if you are planning a small wedding on the Northern beaches, have a look at Pilu Restaurant, it is one of the most spectacular beach side Sydney wedding venues with many awards.

This was the most stunning and relaxed brides I have ever had the pleasure to witness getting married and we felt like friends right from the start. I adore small weddings as it is always more about the bride and groom and they had the most perfect weather as well. It was a joy to spend that time with their family and friends and I wish you all the best in your married life. I will have your slide show up shortly.

CarsonHall Photography Commercial Shoot Part I of III.

Brisbane. Dawn. Cold. Huge Red Couch. Mud Flats.

This was how we started the first shoot of the day. The Carson Hall team are fantastic wedding photographers located in Brisbane and we have been in talks about this commercial shoot on and off for a few months. The brief was to shoot something fun and funky for their website. We would be doing 3 different looks, the first one being retro tinged with a ‘night after’ type feel to it. I woke up at about 3.30am and couldn’t get back to sleep with thoughts running through my head, finally the alarm went off and we were out of there. The light was quite cold to start with and we kept waiting for the sun to break through the cloud bank out at sea but didn’t happen until they had picked up the couch to take it home! Ah well, we had so much fun running around the flats though (besides the 1000’s of worms I was standing on the entire time) …

I recently had serveral shoots in Brisbane and one of them was to photograph this amazing family. I love shooting older kids and really wanted to capture them in the golden sunset light hanging out as siblings, just dancing, picking up seashells, flying kites together at the seaside – with a few fun traditional portraits in between as requested by mum! Jenny Ruddle is a fellow photographer and the mother of these amazing children and as all mother’s knows how hard it is to get all your children in the shot. It is always a little nerve racking to shoot another photographer’s family but it has now happened a few times so I am enjoying the experience so much more. Thanks for making the trip out to see me Jenny and getting to know your amazing family.

Canon Photo5 is on again! I was a finalist the first year and a category winner last year and very excited to have another go. This year there was a low light category, a close up category of 100s and 1000s, a portrait of black paper glasses, liquid to splat and a few lens hood to create bokeh and my entries are below.
