Caspix is a professional photographer based in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, Australia. This is my blog and you will find my professional work, mingled with copious amounts of personal work including digital, holga, polaroid and Instax film.

I am a visual story teller with a contemporary artistic approach to wedding photography and lifestyle commissions. I do this with a camera in hand and my heart on my sleeve. My sessions also explore the gentle beauty of film with holgas, toy cameras and polaroids so talk to me about this. My aim is to push the creative boundaries every time I pick up my camera, whichever one that may be. When I'm not shooting, blogging, tweeting or snapping, then you will find me hanging out with my beautiful brood at home. Welcome. Share. Enjoy!

I am also proud to announce that I have been accepted as a member of the Artistic
Guild Of The Wedding Photojournalist Association.

Sydney Holga Wedding Photography

Here are some of the holga images I shot at the last wedding. I was so pleased when first discussing her wedding photography that Susan, the bride mentioned she was a huge fan of the Holga and had a Diana herself. We discussed shooting a holga session at her wedding and I was so excited to see what we could capture. Lomography, which is shooting with cheap snapshot camera like a holga or a diana is known for its dreamlike romance, with optical distortion, saturated colouholrs, exaggerated vignetting, streaks from light leaks, and unpredictable outcomes.

I shoot with the original 120mm medium format Holga Color Flash Camera and with 120mm film which prints in a square format. The red you see through the images is one of the infamous light leaks that the holga is famous for… as it is made of plastic, there is little control as the how much light ‘leaks’ through its casing at various points. But this is the great thing about it, what you see through the viewfinder is not necessarily what you are going to get and makes even the most normal things even more interesting.

The artist in me adores the holga, although it is not for everyone, but if you are interested in having a holga session at your wedding, please contact me – caspix[at]mac.com.  You can see more of my holga work if you click here or on the ‘film’ category in the links above.

Sydney Midsummer Wedding

It was certainly a midsummer wedding, Susan and Nick’s big day was very hot indeed. They were such an amazing couple to be around, both so welcoming and calm as well. It was a pleasure to have been a part of their fabulous wedding day and here is the sneak peek for all to enjoy. The bride is also a girl after my own heart and has her own holga – so I also shot 6 rolls of medium format film of the wedding party down by the water. These are currently being processed and I will be sure to blog them as soon as I can. Excuse the number of photos, I think its possibly the longest blog post ever as I was there from 8.30am until midnight. Hope you guys have a wonderful honeymoon and I will be in touch shortly with the rest of the photographs. You can also see some holga film images I took of their wedding here.

Even Sandy the dog, gave me a smile when the camera was out

I often take photographs of groups that are milling around organising the formal photographs… true candids.

Then his phone starting ringing, mid shoot.. and yes he did answer !

The bride bought along a chalk board especially to capture this sign to finish off her album

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2010

This is my third year documenting the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Last year I shot Mardi Gras 2009 and it is one of the most colourful, fabulous Sydney events on the calender and every year it just gets more amazing. There is an incredible energy to the whole night and it is one of my favourite projects of the year. It is about 5 mins long with about 200 images and all shot with the 16-35mm Canon L series lens. Grab a coffee and enjoy and feel free to leave some blog love xx

ps: Note that this slideshow involves a range of images including nudity and controversial topics so please feel free to NOT click play if you are a bit prudeish :)

Melbourne Lifestyle Photography

I recently spent a weekend shooting in Melbourne and had the pleasure of meeting Mandy and her gorgeous little family. Mandy requested a low key candid family shoot, lots of sunlight and a golden field for a big wall canvas. Whilst we had cloud at times, we managed to have a lot of fun with the late afternoon sunlight and the kids were running around mum and dad the whole time. The energy was amazing and we even managed to see some kangaroos at one point. Mandy is also a photographer in Melbourne so make sure you check her out.

Thanks so much Mandy for spending the afternoon with me, your props were so sweet and I think the kids had heaps of fun!

Sydney Lifestyle Photography Part II

Part two: Christine and Clinton have such a chemistry between them, it was amazing to watch them just be together. They practically forgot I was there most of the time, they were so wrapped up in their little world. Their ability to let go, trust my vision and give me a look into their souls was incredible. They were so willing to do whatever I asked so we ended up shooting for quite a while. It was a pleasure to get to know them as a couple and be a part of their energy and here is the second part of our ‘Just Because’ session together. I had so much fun capturing the streaming late afternoon sunlight, so soft and pretty. Enjoy! ps: I love Christine’s sneaky smile in the first one too hehe

Sydney lifestyle photoshoot

This session is called ‘Just Because’ – no wedding, no engagement, no newborn… Just bccause two people love each other is enough to capture it forever. Christine is a photographer herself, and has recently started Pobke Photography in Canberra. I was so happy when she contacted me for a ‘Just Because’ session with her husband, Clinton. We chatted on the phone organising the shoot and threw around a heap of ideas and let me tell you, Christine is a woman of details. It was a very VERY hot day, but we managed to keep our spirits high with some wading and wine …. the shoot lasted a good 3.5hrs so I am splitting the post into two. Here is the first part, enjoy!

Sydney Engagement Photography

Firstly apologies for my blogging absence, I have received quite a few emails wondering where I am! I am moving house, to Sydney’s Eastern suburbs so its a bit chaotic here. I have at least 8 sessions I need to blog and I know K&B are dying to see their shoot so here it is!

As soon as I met this couple, I knew we were on the same page with our vision. It is so exciting for me to meet a couple that love my work and are up for anything. They bought some fabulous props for us to play with for their ‘Save the Date’ cards and don’t you just love her dress and flower! The forest where we were shooting was amazing as well. I can’t wait to shoot your wedding, which promises to be filled with so many beautiful details.
